Golden Gopher Sports

Not only is the University of Minnesota one of the best universities in an academic sense, but also, it’s highly competitive when it comes to Golden Gopher sports. There are many exciting sports at the University; however, the most recognizable would have to be football, hockey, and basketball.

The football stadium is called TCF Bank Stadium and it fits approximately 52,525 people, so you can imagine how hectic the atmosphere gets when the stadium is sold out! (I’m looking at you Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska!)

Basketball is played at the Williams Arena, and it doesn’t fit as many people as TCF Bank Stadium does, but it still fits a whopping 14,625 people, and remember that it’s indoors, so it sounds like a Boeing plane taking off when the arena sells out!

Last but not least, Minnesota’s favorite sport, hockey. The hockey venue, Mariucci Arena, can hold up to 10,000 people, and it sells out almost every single game. The arena opened in 1993 and is named after John Mariucci, the longtime Gopher coach who is considered the godfather of Minnesota hockey.

If you are interested in going to any of the games then you can buy single student tickets, or you can buy one of the few packages available online that can save you a lot of money! Season tickets are a cheaper option if you feel like you might go to every single game, and if not, then you can sell tickets to fellow students. There are also maroon and gold packages of tickets. The maroon package includes all the men’s football and hockey games, while the gold package adds in hockey to that mix.

Is there any better way to show off your school spirit than at sports events? So, if you feel like you have a strong passion for the University and want to scream your heart out, then get out there and support our Golden Gophers!! Go Gophers!!
