How to Make the Best Out of College

Hello gophers! I hope that the coming midterms are not stressing you out!  While college can be pretty overwhelming with a bazillion credits and homework assignments, the support of friends, peers and fun social activities can help alleviate that pressure. First Year Leadership Institute (FYLI) is a leadership development program for first year students offered during the spring semester. Through weekly meetings, events and a retreat, the environment provided by FYLI helps students hone their leadership skills, strengths, weaknesses and most importantly learn about themselves. FYLI also allows you to gain networking opportunities by pairing freshmen with upperclassmen for resume training, college advices, etc. As a previous member of FYLI, I not only discovered my personal leadership style, but also found myself a home away from home, wherein I could voice out my opinions without feeling judged. I joined the group to find some friends; I found a family instead!

Remember, college is supposed to one of the best 4 years of your life. Make sure you find the right balance between academics and social life. So apply online at z.umn.edu/applyfyli before October 23 and get ready to establish lasting bonds and infinite memories.
