We always read that the University of Minnesota is a research university. But does that affect me?
And the answer is of course: YES! Research is one of the best ways to earn lab experience, increase your knowledge while also getting paid for it (the payment of $1400 will count as a scholarship in your student account). It makes for a great resume builder too. You will be closely working with another graduate student and a professor on a topic that is related to your major. You may be part of the next discovery or innovation happening today!
While it's not common for first year students to do undergraduate research, some students will still apply for it. You can read more about UROP (Undergraduate research opportunities program) here.
