Work Hard, Play Hard

University is about more than just partying and having the craziest time of your life. It’s about being able to manage your schedule and manage to get things done WHILE having an amazing time.

All the events in university can be roughly categorized into three different categories - Academic, Social, and Sleeping life. Sometimes, just sometimes, people would find a job and add an extra load onto the already-impossible-to-balance schedule.

I know, I get it, it’s easy to say that you can just get less sleep and use that time to study and socialize. But trust me, sleep will eventually catch up to you and hunt you down. So this is what I find useful. I divide my week up by weekends and weekdays. On weekdays NEVER party. Try to focus on your academic work and try to complete the assignments that are coming up the following week or even the week after if you have time. On weekends, on the other hand, DON’T STUDY. Let your brain relax and get the rest that it needs. Go hang out with your friends, watch Netflix, eat ice-cream, or even just spend a little time with yourself and let your mind settle and think things through.

At the beginning of the semester, set a sleeping time for yourself. Not an incredibly late one, but something like 11:30 or 12:00 pm. Try to stick to that schedule no matter what. It’s going to be hard (especially on weekends and you go out to have fun), but keep in mind that your brain and your body deserves to rest after a long day, week, or month. If you don’t let it get enough rest, it will get the rest it needs the hard way, so don’t challenge it.
